Forced Ads

Im a member of a forum that I rarely visit due to the fact that it has full page ads.. I will be browsing around the forum and randomly I will get hit with a full page ad. It takes a few seconds before the Skip this ad button becomes visible so I have to look at the ad.

Another forum I'm on makes you view a thread with adverts in it before you can see the rest of the forum. You get a message like Forum Locked. You must view this page to see the rest of the forum. then it takes you to an thread full of adverts.

How do you feel about forced ads?



Having ads as just a banner in the header or footer is fine but forcing me to look at them is a HUGE turn off.

I hate those websites that load, then 2/3 seconds later the page dims and a survey pops up and you have to complete it to view the site. It really pisses me off, because the surveys ask for your credit card details or other personal information.



Forced ads are pathetic way of trying to make money, it just makes people leave your site.

Well I have to admit to his awesome skill at getting people to not want to come back. In fact, I think there should be a feature that slams a selected person with those types of ads with every click they make. That will sure get rid of either them or their crappy attitude. XD



To be serious though, I probably wouldn't go to a site for long with that type of ad and I would never think of ever considering using such money making techniques as it clearly shows you care about nothing other then making a buck with a site.

Huge turnoff, probably wouldn't visit there again. I'm not fans of ads at all really. For the longest time my site was completely ad free but then my host needed a little revenue so we put a few very small text ones at the bottom.

I've been on some sites that have that. Not a forum though. Once I've been forced to see that add and wait for the skip this add button, the windows already closed down.

I would never do that on any of my sites, and refuse to visit sites that do.

Any site that has forced ads, other than an advertisement forum, I would refuse to visit it. I know of one such forum that's all of a sudden getting bad with this, and I refuse to go back to it for that reason. If I ever had to put ads on my site, I'd rather do text ads than picture ads or anything of that sort.
