This is a conversation I've seen a lot lately, not just in the last few months, but within the last few years. The quality of games has been going down in terms of games being released with many bugs and glitches that need patches of the course of a few weeks just to fix them. It's sad, I feel, because of how much pressure the developers are under to push the game out and make sales, especially when it comes to pre-ordering and using that avenue to garner sales (when really it doesn't matter anymore because frankly there are going to be plenty copies of the game you want somewhere near you). What do you think should be the solution to this issue of devs pushing games out with bugs and glitches?

All I know is if I'm paying for a game with my hard earned money it better be glitch free!

:fighting:

I don't mind it taking a little bit longer to release the game so they can work all the kinks out. :dontknow:

That seems to be the issue here. Game devs are pushing games out before they should be released when even a few weeks could make the difference. It's really hurting a lot of developers images, and if they don't learn from the mistakes some are making like Ubisoft and others where the glitches are just horrendous and shouldn't even be there, then bad things are going to happen and money is going to be lost.

The issue is that developers have gotten lazy with the rise of online gaming. With the ability to connect directly to your consoles, they have no need to waste time and money fixing it now, they can wait until you've paid for their shitty product and then fix it when they want.

I feel that's true in a sense, but the picture is so much bigger than just online gaming. It's a manner of fixing the game, yes, but it all boils down to sales. Developers like CD Projekt who are delaying one of their most anticipated games pushed The Witcher 3 back a good few months because they realize if they push it out soon that they're going to give gamers an incomplete game. Take Naughty Dog for instance as well. They haven't given us a date for release of Uncharted 3, and I don't think we'll get one for a little while, if not at E3. I feel their games have been rather quality products, although sometimes buggy not as much as some of the other one's I've played lately. I just wish other developers would take the hint and follow their colleagues by putting even just a few more weeks into a product as opposed to pushing it out first and then expecting high marks for an unpolished game.

CD Projekt obviously learned from their mistakes with the witcher 1, which was barely playable when it came out (would crash if you didn't put it in windowed mode for example).

It's a combination I think. As sinon said, with all the online capabilities it's no longer much of an issue to patch a game a few weeks after release, add to that more complex new engines and the pressure of a very tight schedule and you're bound to have lots of bugs.

It's nothing new though, most bigger games like open world RPGs have been riddled with bugs for the last decade and more often then not they don't even get fixed. (elder scrolls anyone?)

It's definitely nothing new, but we are seeing so many games being released with bugs that should've been fixed in beta/alpha stages that it makes us gamers wonder why it's even happening anymore. No one expects a perfect game, of course, but since this isn't a new thing it just doesn't make sense why some devs don't seem to be learning from their mistakes.

I think it's just the way the market works atm. Big hype and pre-orders are prioritized over having the perfect game. For example IMO dragon age 3 is terrible because the combat almost seems untested before they brought it out, but why should they care? I already bought it. Unless you're talking MMOs, that inital box sale is all they really care about.

I feel like we as customers could do a hell of a lot more by not pre-ordering and demanding quality games by boycotting those who don't put the effort into it.

Well it's usually not the developer's fault. The publishers are to blame...

But I agree. Problem is it won't ever get to that. All major gaming shows, magazines and gaming sites are paid off for those nice previews and high scoring reviews no matter how shit the game is. They'll just focus on the "great storyline and graphics" even if half the classes in the game are completely pointless because even their most basic mechanics don't work properly.

We could still do the exact same thing I mentioned above until someone starts to get it.

Ahh well, but the masses don't think... or take their games seriously enough. :P

Personally though, I'm no longer buying games without trying them. DA3 was such a waste of money I'm kind of done with single players all together.

I've bought several games that have glitches or are just too easy to the point it makes you wonder.

Edited my post since I misunderstood the thread, lol. And Off Topix doesn't allow deleting stuff... so, yeah, you're just gonna look at this awkward out of place post now!

Have you ever played a game that was glitchy and felt rushed / incomplete?
