Too soon to ignite the gun debate. Though, I will say that I think involving Connecticut's gun control policies and attributing it any way to this crime sounds so opportunistic and unfair. Much like mass shootings in the past, there are familiar pieces. For one thing, this suspect supposedly had access to guns which were still legally owned (and by his own mother who was pretty enthusiastic about guns herself: http://www.nytimes.c...s-generous.html). The fact that he was denied from owning a gun only meant he had to look the other way. It's a shame we have such a gun-loving culture.

Truly a shame that it took the shooting deaths of young, defenseless children to spur the President forward. I really respect President Obama but I feel that, at this point, so much damage has been done already. Of course it is not just a matter of tighter gun restrictions, but also gun availability and, most importantly, changing the gun culture we have here - a Herculean task indeed.

I don't believe guns are the main problem here, I think they should be looking at the mental health issue. The guy was a nutter, but not every gun owner in the states is like him.

Guns are illegal in the UK but we have a high murder rate from guns and knifes.

And yes if the prinicple had a gun then they could have shot the bastard before he shot up the school. Self defence.

They need to tighten security in schools. When I go to the courthouse for any reason, I need to go through a metal detector. When you go to the airport, you are put through all sorts of security checks. What makes a school any different?

@Doc: Excellent sign and glad you borrowed it from your brother.
