Happy belated Birthday!!!!
Thanks for the birthday wish Crys, I appreciate it.
Do you sit around a lot? Hope you get out get some fresh air! move about
Not really.. I mean this pain primarily originated from me taking care of my late great-grandmother and it got worse over the years. She had a bad habit of firing her home attendants and she always had good instincts so she never really wanted anyone around her that she didn't trust. This was definitely the case as some either didn't always show up on time or they were stealing from her.
So eventually my great-uncle ended up asking me if I could move in to take care of her until they found a better solution.. so basically over the next 2-3 years I was that person, and because she was bedridden, I basically had to lift her and put her in her wheelchair basically whenever she had to go anywhere.. I had no supportive equipment aside from the stuff she had herself.. so I had to lift her be it to take her to her appointments outside the home or anywhere else within her home.. so I was basically on call 24/7.
Eventually when her condition worsened after she had to be hospitalized after a routine check up at her Dr. and after 2 weeks, she ended up in the nursing home, where I was still on call because I was her legal guardian for everything, so basically they answered to me for everything until her death.. which made attending college full-time difficult, but at least my school knew what was up so I had leeway..
At any rate, although I was in my early 20s, and still benefitted from 3 years of weight training I took in high school, all that lifting started to take its toll on me by the time I turned 25.. by my second semester in college, I had to start using one of those Captain's suitcases to carry my books because I couldnt lift them anymore.. (those are the bags that are the second smallest size to the carry on in a suitcase set..) and the commute to school everyday was taking its toll on me too so eventually I couldn't ride the subway or mass transit anymore.
And then sometime in 2013 I was in a devastating car accident up here and the site of impact was on the same side as where the worst of my back pain is which is on the lower left side of my back.. so that part of my back also absorbed the impact and that was when things got much worse for me, even though things were pretty bad up to that point already.. and still getting worse..
Fast forward to 2020 when we did this move when between the regular visits, the house hunt and closing and then the nearly year long move in which we have driven the distance from New York to California at least 2 or 3 times.. and so, all of that jostling from the road and labor with getting our stuff together and even now with unpacking and organizing has had an impact as well.
I think it has gotten even worse because since we have been here, I have noticed that the weather affects me as well.. like if I slept in the wrong position, and I wake up then that pain will only last an hour after I wake up and during that time I cannot move or walk.. but if I slept normal (with my feet elevated on a wedge) but notice that my entire body is in pain, and it lasts no matter what I take for the pain, and goes for the entire day, then that is when I know that rain/snow will be coming soon.. and during that time until it stops, it is hell.. so though I had s reprieve on my bday, it still sucked during the days before and after.. so, I suspect that it might be arthritic as well.
Anyway, I am hoping that I'll be able to see a Dr. up here soon but they are in short supply and even though we started our search well before closing (this was in late 2021) and found someone, and made an appointment and FINALLY got one for March.. (2023) about a week before my scheduled appt, I get a letter saying that my appt was given away (without explanation just an apology and told to call to reschedule..) I did, after the receptionist told me that there were vacancies in Buffalo (2.5 hrs away from me and I told her I couldn't do it) she then rescheduled mine until mid-October.. so I have to wait again..
If I am not able to see anyone up here by then or my appt is once again given away, then I will probably either try to go back to my last Dr. in Brooklyn or try and find someone out by my parents house in Long Island and then see someone there.. I dont care if I have to fly from SYR to ISP to do it.. the flights are cheap and I can easily rack up Southwest miles to use on vacation if I have too..
Until then, I just try to stay active and keep moving and getting our shit unpacked and organized is a great motivation for doing so.. which has been great for staying fit, but still sucks for the pain. This was why I said that about really needing the well wishes you guys sent me because it has been days of pain this week until my actual bday where I finally got a break.. so this thread what kind of a respite so to speak.
