Have you ever asked for a discount?

Yes, indeed!
Display (last) items are an easy thing to ask for and get a good discount on if they're not already marked down. Vacuum cleaner at Costco; microwave at Home Depot.
You can successfully "haggle" on most things with some smaller merchants sometimes. (always a good idea to ask, if you're "gutsy" enough; the worst that can happen is that you'll be told "no")
New furniture is sometimes a possibility; there's such an incredible mark-up on that.
You can just about always "haggle" on car prices, new and/or used. Lots of back & forth time there, but we have found out that you can secure a better discount working out an online deal with a sales agent before you ever go into a dealership to look. It "feels like" once you're physically there, they've "got you".
Real Estate........always shoot for a better price.

I love shopping! :D

In pawn shops, definitely!!

Only if I feel that the level of service I have received was terrible and I have a good reason to, otherwise just brazenly doing it makes me anxious.
I have asked for things like upgrades in hotels though, if you don't ask, you don't get!

I don't think I have, I have been offered a discount or free stuff but thats about it.

Never. I don't even like people asking me for a discount or for my employee discount.

I've tried a couple of times - unsuccessfully. Should be able to because I've been with my oldest son who always manages to talk the price down, whatever it is.

Do you get a big employee discount?

Sounds like he has some good negotiating skills :D

i didn't ask for a discount but my vet gives 10% off for senior pet owners. i don't care if they've made the assumption about my age.

years ago... before EZpass was around almost everywhere... there was a program for seniors crossing the delaware into NJ. my dad golf in NJ and crossed the commodore barry bridge on a regular basis. he could buy a booklet of discounted toll passes. then my aunt (his sister) bought a house in Ocean City. she asked dad to buy her the passes and he said NO. she was eligible for them but to vain to admit it.

Yes, but only in an appropriate situation where there might likely be discounts available and I do not get pissy when they say no.

Never hurts to ask; 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'.
