My friend got some helium balloons today. She brought two over to my office this morning. She opened the end on hers and inhaled some of the helium. When she started talking, she sounded just like Donald Duck!

I tried it too and the same thing happened to my voice. When I started talking, both my dogs started growling and barking. They then ran out of the room. I swear, I have never laughed so hard in my life.

Question: Have you ever tried this?

That's funny LOL I never try it before but have heard that helium can make your voice sound weird

It is very funny. My poor dogs, however, didn't think so.

What most people don't realise is, if you're inhaling helium you're not inhaling oxygen. This can cause brain damage and even death.

That's the main reason I never tried it & never will

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] Helium isn't toxic and doesn't build up in your body. Very little even gets into your bloodstream (which is why deep-ocean divers breath helium/oxygen mixtures). The main danger from breathing helium is that you can lower your blood oxygen levels enough to black out. If you are standing, you can fall and hit your head, which can actually be fairly serious if you catch the edge of a fireplace or table.
