Why do people browse as hidden on a forum? As soon as they post everyone knows that they are the member who is listed as 1 hidden on the index (for example). Then they arent really hidden after all.

Whats the point of doing it?



I used to do it on my forum (as the admin) sometimes because I could check on the staff area and the forum as a whole without being bombarded with PM's by people seeing me online, and felt like asking a question or something.

I have done it to 'hide' from certain members--ones that were being pests. lol. Or when I was messing around with the ACP. But other than that......nope.

I sometimes do it when I don't want people knowing I'm online or bothering me, but pretty much I don't appear invisible often.

Lol Nebulous is contradicting himself. He appears hidden at the moment. Its cool though. I do it sometimes too.

When I was a moderator or admin of certain sites, it is sometimes fun to see people's comments and things like that. People sometimes act a different way when the mods aren't around, and it works as a good way to prevent people from posting certain things.. Because they never know if one was around.

When I get a PM but don't have time to view the rest of the site, or talk to other people, I go hidden.

I do it because it is a force of habit.. and sometimes when I am at work, because I am not supposed to be logged in.. even if it is my lunch break, although it is ok for us to browse.

How am I contradicting myself... I said in the original post:

check on the staff area and the forum as a whole without being bombarded with PM's by people seeing me online, and felt like asking a question or something.

I was at work and only popped on for a short break if you must know why.

I never cared for logging in anonymously as I never saw the point. It's not like I get all that many pms in the first place so don't care if people see me on.

I don't see the point of being hidden, the only time I have been hidden is when somebody was trying to spam a forum I was admin on
