Why do high end fashion shows have such outrageously absurd outfits?

Because they're going more for fashion concepts rather than clothes you'd actually wear around. Kind of like how car manufacturers will produce concept cars that aren't actually intended for mass production, but in their experimenting they may come across something which can be implemented into a mass produced car.

So you'll never see those sort of clothes being worn around on the street. But some designer at one of the shows may like one aspect of an outfit, and incorporate that into a much more subtle design which will be mass produced.
