Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone here has got any experience or knowledge in interrior house decoration/design and could help me in any way. I'm working on a living room and at the moment it looks terrible. I've painted the room and done some work but I'm having trouble actually making the place look nice/normal and placing the furniture. If anyone could be of any help just let me know and I'll get some pictures and information. Thanks!

Could you draw a map of your living room layout (maybe in microsoft paint) and post it here?

Picture of the room and furniture you're trying to place would be very helpful.

Alright, here are the pictures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOwgaZr0zDk&feature=youtu.be

I am unable to see the picture, I am getting message as connection was reset. I am not sure why it is so, is it happening with others as well or I am getting like this?

Hmm, I wouldn't put the TV in front of the window, but then again that might be a good place because you probably don't see any glare.

Do you have anything to hang on the walls?

That table behind the green chairs can slide into the other room I think.

I would say a nice rug or two could help to pull the room together. Wooden floors are nice, but they also serve quite a few purposes:

1) Soften the blow for neighbors downstairs (if you have any)
2) Dirt catcher, easy to vacuum
3) Visually pleasing
4) Soft on the feeties

Quite honestly, the amount of couches in that room is too much for my taste. xD I would remove the orange/red couch and put a desk in the living area right where it was instead. Or, you could move the couch into another room, or substitute the chairs and put those into another room and move the red couch up further where the green chairs are, making an L-shape with the two couches instead.

I've got a good eye for interior design and renovating, I grew up in so many houses that we renovated, sold, moved, renovated, sold, moved etc that it's something I now love.

Here is my advice, it's in a random order as i'm just writing things down as It comes to mind.

- As jazzy said way too much furniture, how much of it is necessary?
- What purpose does that wooden table hold? Is it a dining table, an office desk or a coffee table. To be fair if it's any I'd recommend going for something lighter (or sanding and staining it yourself would be a cheaper solution) as this will make it less imposing on the room. If you have the budget to replace it with something smaller, lower and possibly even glass it will make the room seem twice as big, trust me.

- The view from 0:02, the picture on the far wall should be hung on the wall and not just lying on the cabinet, if its there temporarily then fine, but if its there because you rent and you don't want to damage the wall then have a quick google, there are plenty of solutions on how to hang things without damaging the wall I'm sure.

- I wouldn't put it on that wall where it's leaning against anyway, I'd put it on the wall to the left of it.

- At the end of the video when it's looking back towards the front door (i presume is a front door) with the radiator, a nice mirror above the radiator, with a corner table there (quite tall, but thin wood, light material) that you can put post etc on would be good.

- What is it at 0:07? A lamp? If so i'd recommend a standing lamp, if not, move that lamp to the proposed corner table I proposed above.

- You need to create a colour theme. A rug with certain colours in you can get cushions of with similar colours in, doesn't have to be the same but you must incorporate one or two main colours between everything you want to include in the theme. If possible i'd put a picture on the wall facing the TV with colours in that match the theme you've chosen.

- Try and open the blinds as much as you can without it being too much of an inconvenience, you can never have too much natural light in a room to make it feel better.

- Buy some throws/cushions for the couches, throws are really cheap and you can get them from ikea etc, they'll make your furniture look more modern and up to date without anyone knowing that it isn't the case, and you might feel more comfortable sitting on them afterwards too. Cushions will also make a big difference.

This is all for now I think, let me know if you can't do much of what I've said for budget reasons and i'll have a small rethink, but I have a picture in my head of how welcoming and comfortable your flat could be, you've got most of the right ingredients, and you've freshly painted the place and the wooden floors are nice, so that's the two BIGGEST jobs out of the way so don't feel too dishearted if my list was a bit big hahaha.

Please get back to me I'd love to know what you think of what i've said.

First of all let me say I'm very thankful for all the tips, advice and suggestions. Also, I just want to clear something out. Anything and everything is possible as long as it results in the room looking nicer, friendlier, warmer with the exception of it costing a LOT of money.

It's actually a youtube video, and everyone else can see it just fine. No idea what's wrong.

1. I'm actually throwing that TV away. Problem is it's too damn heavy to move. Plus it has sentimental value since it's where I spent a lot of my time as a kid. Actually I didn't even use it that much but I used to watch all my favorite films there. (Dinosaur, Treasure Planet, Finding Nemo, Toyland) :P
2. I like that idea and I will try to gather what I have and take some pictures.
3. Do you mean the big, wooden table? How exaclty would you place it in the other room?

1. Sure, I'll get some rugs on that floor!
2. I'll like the idea of making an L with the two couches, I'll probably try that.
3. These sites are hoaxes! :lol2: They just show you some nice places that cost thousands to make and be like 'see u dummy its easy'. :P

1. Read my first sentence.
2. To be honest it doesn't serve any purpose at the moment but it used to be a dining table. I'll think about that.
3,4. I'll do that!
5. Not sure if I have something like that available but your point is to cover that radiator because it looks bad, right?
6. I know it doesn't look nice, it's just temorary.
7. Damn, this sounds complex. xD
8. Actually these 2 windows at 0:23 are a bit of a problem since the sun sees them all day long causing the room to get hot especially in summer.
9. I have some of these, I'll put them in place!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I really appreciate the help!
Also I may have a nice wooden bookcase available if it's still in good shape. I don't have a picture of it right now because it is in pieces but do you think it could look good anywhere in the room? Please keep the suggestions going, I think this is going somewhere!

Do you mean the big, wooden table? How exaclty would you place it in the other room?

I'd place it in the middle, put chairs around it and use that as a dining room.

That's not a bad idea actually. My only worry is that it may be a too big and the space too little. I'll definitely give it a shot though.

I like Dee's idea of getting rid of that red sofa and putting a desk there too. Our maybe put the red one where the white sofa is and get rid of the white one.

Not sure about the bookshelf idea, a few of us have pointed out that the room has a bit too much furniture at the moment.

I'd get the room to how you want it, and then say 'right, that piece still has to go if I want the bookshelf'.
