So, everyone who creates a forum, usually creates more than one forum because the first idea doesn't work out. When you create a forum, how long do you give it before you scrap the project and move on to the next one?

My last one lasted 9 years.
Wow, that's a long time. May I asked why you gave up on it?

It got ruined by a so called friend. People lost hope in it in the end and I struggled to keep it going after all the crap happened.
I closed it, said I was done running forums, but then a friend who ran another metal forum came to me a few months later and asked if we could run a new one together. Metal Tavern was born.

That's a shame about your first forum. However, good did come out of it. Metal Tavern is simply awesome!

I ran an advertisement forum for 2 years, a different general chat forum for like a year and those are both gone now because of life issues at the time. I've been running this community for 4+ years now.

I've only made one forum and it lasted 2-3 months.
That's not a very long time to see if the forum would work out or not. Did you close it because you lost interest?

Not really a set time, but more on you and how dedicated you are or can be...
Have you ever owned a forum or forums? If so, how many and how long did they last?

I remember him owning something with a "Tropical" theme now that I think about it :|

I give every one of my website projects a full year of service before I ditch them. If the site is active after just a few months, then I usually give them much longer time. :)

That's the best thing to do when running a forum.

So you're going to ditch your current forum after a year?

I think what he meant was that he gives each forum a full year to become active and if it is still not working out after a year is when he ditches it. I guess he's not one of those types who opens and closes forums every month. lol

I usually wait about a month or two. I try to do my best to advertise though
