Hello everybody at Off Topix.net,

I'm curious on what your thoughts on this topic are. I've seen parents before who seem to think that they should be able to access their child's social life anytime and know about everything, to the extent where they actually have their child's Facebook account credentials so that they can log in whenever they want to.

Do you think that children should be entitled to privacy when it comes to parents, and if so, to what extent does that privacy take effect?

Thanks!

What ages are we talking about?

There is a difference between an Elementary age child and one in High School.

And then you have to take into consideration the level of Trust that the child has earned.

Of course, that is assuming a 'reasonable' parent, which, as I understand it, is more of an endangered species than the Loggerhead sea turtle.

I agree with DrLeftover, it comes down to age and responsibility

of the individual child.

However, logging into their online accounts, whether Facebook or

any other, when the child is 'not' around, is not something I personally

would do unless I felt there was a justifiable reason for doing so.

I was thinking more of teenager when I created this thread (Facebook is 13+ after all), maybe a bit rebellious but not too bad.

To an extent. I'm of the opinion that, until you're old enough to live without sponging off other people, then you should submit to at least some level of not having privacy. If you're 13 and going out at night, then your parents have every right to know where you're going and who you're going with. Same really applies during the daytime as well.
