Pete Rose should be in next round of Hall of Fame inductees.
No, because (a) the rules were different at the time, rules which Rose admits to breaking and (b) we don't retroactively apply current laws/rules to past events.
In a perfect world, there wouldn't be a character clause at Cooperstown because if they honestly enforced it, half the people there wouldn't be in...and we know they don't honestly enforce it because the people enforcing it (the baseball writers) are a bunch of stuck-up snits who get their undies in a bunch whenever something happens that offends their paper-thin delicate sensibilities (case in point: their "outrage" over the Steroid Era).

It's not really a grand plan or conspiracy to hook people when everyone that wanted to bet on sports was already doing it despite prohibition...that's like saying legalizing weed is a government plan to get people addicted to weed...

The real government conspiracy to that they want to get in on all the rackets they used to prohibit in the past just so they can tax them that's the real government conspiracy and racket...that governments care only about taking more taxes instead of actually caring about people is a fact...

Oh and that justifies expanding it?

Gee, no wonder everyone's so cynical about sports these days; between all the past doping scandals, the tax ripoffs politicians give pro leagues, the pervasive nature of money at the collegiate level...why not expand sports gambling?

Not sure if that justifies it or justifies anything else but I just stating the facts like I see them the governments are always involved to make sure they profit and by profit I mean increase their tax revenues just like cigarettes liquor lotteries pharmaceuticals like oxycodone and fentinel marriage licenses etc all governments worldwide are just a business like anything else and the most important thing is always their own interests nothing else...
