How to destroy a country?

(Note, this is a serious question.)

Since I forget all of the stuff I learned about economics and such, I want to refresh my memory. Now, how would someone destroy (or severely cripple) a country economically? I know some about the physical side of it(war, evil government, etc.), but I'm just lost on the economic side of it.

Give me links to articles and give me information. if you can.



Among most of things I'm having to research while I'm writing my novel, this one is a crucial one, as it will help me develop one of my antagonists.

I can't give you links but this is my opinion.

Nothing is new, we keep making the same mistakes over and over again, so all you have to do is look at history. (actually, a good movie to watch to get an idea of it would be The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse).



The ways that economics can destroy a country:

1. debt

2. A shrinking middle class ( revolutions are not started by the poor, they are started by the educated middle class, just look at the French, Russian and American revolutions).

3. lack of wealth distribution.

4. Economic corruption of governments

How about this:

Have the state take care of the elderly (and not in some half-assed way either).

Promote gender equality and women working full time jobs. (Men too, of course.)

Promote safe sex and do everything you can to reduce teen pregnancy.

Keep maternity leave at a minimum.

Make education free, but take away child support.

Provide free healthcare.

Promote getting a good education.

Promote marriage before sex.

[OPTIONAL] Implement China's one child rule.



Soon you will have an ageing population struggling to support all the state sponsored stuff.

Oh and it won't even sound like you did anything wrong.

Plus that wouldn't develop the villain better. A villain who takes down a country economically slowly, but effectively would be better.

Perhaps, but you'd need some sort of a reason for people to stay in your country as well.
