....now, listen, kids, and take notes:
(American Thinker) It used to be that if you wanted to teach kids about capitalism, you’d tell them to open a lemonade stand. By producing a product, marketing it, and selling it, they would get a small taste of what it is like to run a business.

But now telling your kids to open a lemonade stand is the best way of teaching them about socialism, not capitalism. First, tell your kids to open a lemonade stand. Watch as they make lemonade, paint a sign, and move a table and chairs and a pitcher and cups to your front lawn.

Then let them sell for a few minutes unimpeded. Then come along and tell them you're from the Department of Agriculture, and want to see where the calorie count for their products are posted. If there is no calorie count, take 25% of what they have earned as a fine.

Then leave them alone for a few minutes and come back and ask if they are aware that they are violating child labor laws. When they tell you they are unaware, take 25% of what they have remaining as a fine.

Then come back a few minutes later and ask for the environmental impact statement for their lemonade stand. When they ask what that is, explain that before stand can be allowed to open, you have to study whether the ants under their feet or the squirrels in the trees above them are discomfited by the lemonade stand. If you notice any ice cubes melting on the ground to form a little puddle, say that is wetlands and can be regulated by the EPA as well. Assess a 25% fine of what they have left.

Then come back a little while later and ask if they have been investing in healthcare for their employees, and withholding money for social security and Medicare. If they haven't, assess a 25% penalty.

Then come back a little while later and ask why there are no girls working there. Or if there are girls, ask why there are no blacks. Or if there are blacks, ask why no Hispanics. If there are Hispanics, ask why no gays. If there are gay kids, ask why no transgendered. Say that the absence of one group is evidence of discrimination, and assess a 25% fine.

Then leave them alone for a few minutes and set up a competing lemonade stand right next to them, with the sign "Luis Gutierrez Lemonade, 5 cents". When the kids ask what you are doing tell them you are an illegal alien come to this country to compete for their jobs. If they start crying tell them that crying about it is racist and they could be fined.

At the end of the day count how much they have earned remaining after all your fines and take 50% of it. When they ask why, say it is for federal, state, and sales taxes. Explain that it was not they who sold the lemonade, but the government, who made the roads and sidewalks by which people came to buy it, and that they, the small business owner, are the "rich", and need to pay their fair share.

After all this is said and done, ask your kids if they identify more with the producers of lemonade, or the government inspectors. Then you will have explained socialism to them.

Thoughts?

This is why socialism is evil. And can be more dangerous then communism. Because the sheep of the planet seem to think this is a good combination of both freedom and government control.

this article is total trash...

This article is dead on accurate and would be a good lesson to for kids on how a out of control governments have ruined businesses and inovation everywhere.

it's not completely dead on, only because some of their comparisons are total out of context and with reality... for an example, the mentioning of the wetlands... the wetlands shouldn't be messed with...

Ya it is a completely irrelevant to reality. You can't scale down industry laws to something like this, it is stupid.

Sure you can. People have been brainwashed to think otherwise. The article is excellent example of facts on how government destroys self will and independence.

No, it is completely comparable, Mike, and its' also a good way to teach the differences between capitalism and socialism in a manner that's understandable to everyone.

So let's reverse it then:
Do you think a large corporation should be able to sell the poorest quality fruit and sell it as 'fresh'?

Or purchase that fruit from farmers who employ illegal migrants to keep their costs down?

Do you believe that a large company that employs thousands of people can have an employment policy of hiring white people only?
How about hiring just black people?

Do you think that it would be acceptable for that company to refuse to promote a woman to a management position based on her gender?

Do you think that a forestry company should have unlimited rights to clear cut the Red Wood Forest in California?

Do you really think that corporations have no responsibility to pay any tax at all back to the government of the country that they are making their profits in?

Do you believe that the entire tax bourdon should fall only on the employees?

Based on the lemonade story being a model for 'Socialism' if you replied no to any of those questions then you must be a Socialist.

If you said yes to those questions then ya, tell the kid to go buy expired lemons that are close to rotting and make his juice and sell it as fresh.
have him throw his lemon peals into his neighbours yard,
Don't hire or sell his juice to any non whites.
Hire girls just to clean up afterwards.
Any left over juice at the end of the day, just dump on his neighbours lawn.
Then count his profit and be proud of being a good capitalist

Yes! The market will soon enough put him out of business without the government needing 5000 pages of regulations describing what fresh means.

Or purchase that fruit from farmers who employ illegal migrants to keep their costs down?

That is about our government enforcing a common sense law and nothing to do about capitalism.

Do you believe that a large company that employs thousands of people can have an employment policy of hiring white people only?
How about hiring just black people?

Yes and yes! And any other race they choose. Even Orientals!  :P  There business and it should be there choice freely. Again the free market will determine from word of mouth what kind of company they are and if the people are. And the people will freely decide if they want to buy products from that company

Do you think that it would be acceptable for that company to refuse to promote a woman to a management position based on her gender?

Yes for the same reasons I described above.

Do you think that a forestry company should have unlimited rights to clear cut the Red Wood Forest in California?

If it is there land they bought and paid for yes. But then if that was ever true and they did not replant 5 trees for every one taken down then those companies would have been out of business many, many, many decades ago.

Do you really think that corporations have no responsibility to pay any tax at all back to the government of the country that they are making their profits in?

That is a crony socialist capitalism problem not a capitalism problem.

Do you believe that the entire tax bourdon should fall only on the employees?

Need more specifics on what you mean here.

Based on the lemonade story being a model for 'Socialism' if you replied no to any of those questions then you must be a Socialist.

That is not true but it is good to know I am not even close to a socialist.

If you said yes to those questions then ya, tell the kid to go buy expired lemons that are close to rotting and make his juice and sell it as fresh.

And that child will learn a valuable lesson about going out of business fast with such a business model. Capitalism has faith in the people to choose the products they want. Socialism directs people like sheep to the products government thinks they should have.

have him throw his lemon peals into his neighbours yard,

And if the country he selling in has a decent justice system he will be sued by the neighbor and that outcome will be a big fine.

Don't hire or sell his juice to any non whites.

Again the people in a free market looking for goods don't need a government to tell them that is a bad practice.

Hire girls just to clean up afterwards.

Again that is the right of the business to decide and for the public looking for that product to decide if they want to buy from a company who hires just girls to clean up the mess. So when you go to Hooters do you think the company should be forced to also have men in the tightest shorts possible with some chest high tee shirt also? I do not think there business model would survive very long with such a practice.

Any left over juice at the end of the day, just dump on his neighbours lawn.

See lawsuit comment above for lemon peels

Then count his profit and be proud of being a good capitalist

And there is the fallacy a socialist loves to throw around that true capitalism only means we all want to see dirty air and people suffering in the streets while we laugh all the way to the bank. No the consumer is better then that and our free press would expose people to the occasions when people choose to act poorly with there business. With crony socialist capitalism running things now across this planet it is doing far more harm then a pure form of capitalism ever could hope to do.
