Today, we took the decision to change vets with Bandit and Skipper to a vets Bandit and, at the time, Busco was registered too - before we moved here. Why? I hear you ask...
OK well, some of you may know, and some of you may not know that Skipper was referred to a specialist to have a Ruptured Ligament operation on his knee because our then vet couldn't do them - This isn't the reason we changed..
When Skipper first had this accident, the vets treated it as a 'bump' on the knee. And, that a course of antibiotics and some pain relief would sort it out within a week.. Now, I am no vet, but I knew, deep down that this was more than just a 'bump'.
At first, they accused my boy, Bandit of causing the gash on his knee, saying it looked like he'd just caught him on the knee cap with a claw or something. So, I thought nothing else of it.. Until a week later.. At this point, his knee was physically swollen and something was wrong, much more than a bump.. His knee cap was slightly off centre, and it was giving him a lot of pain.. I phoned the vet and explained what had happened. We went in to see them, they said it was swollen because of the fluid on the knee cap.
Fast forward a week.. Baring in mind, Skipper's been in agony now, for THREE WEEKS. It wasn't until my final call of concern about him, that he was FINALLY referred for an op! So, a week later, we see the guy who did his op and he KNEW, just by LOOKING at him that something wasn't right!!
Now, this isn't the first time Skipper has been misdiagnosed. The first time he went in with a problem with him not eating, they said he was being a picky eater - that's not like Skipper, he'd eat ANYTHING.. This dogs eaten plastic for goodness sake. Turned out, AFTER A SECOND OPINION, that he had ulcers in his stomach!!
Never again will I EVER let him be left that long untreated. I knew something wasn't right, I just wish I'd of took him somewhere else for a second opinion. Maybe then, he'd of been sorted much quicker than he was!!
My poor little baby!!
