Wow I haven't heard this song in a few years. I agree with you.. You can tell the guy was really hurt by someone. If I ever got cheated on I'd probably send song to the girl.

I did a little research and it turns out that the girl in the reply song did not even know him. She was just looking for her 15 minutes of fame.

I could be wrong but I think the reply did just as well as the original in the UK, maybe even better. I didnt realise she didnt know him, I thought they had planned to do them both right from the start
