Went to the DMV (department of motor vehicles for all you foreigners out there) and was there for 3 hours!!! There was a line around the building.. It took me over an hour just to get to the Start Here front desk and get my number...

When I got up to the desk I noticed there was only one person reviewing paper work and giving out the numbers. There is usually 2 people there. They could have easily pulled another employee from somewhere to sit at the front desk. That way people dont have to stand out in the 100+ degree sun for an hour or two.

Anyway after an hour & a half of standing out in the sun, I get my number and get to sit down.. I put my headphones in, listening to music and playing a game on my phone but the person sitting next to me kept trying to make small talk. I didn't really have any interest in talking to a stranger that I will never see again especially while I was in a foul mood resulting from the 1st part of my DMV visit. I told him Cant you see I am not interested in idiotic small talk (after I a few times of me taking out my headphones out and saying WHAT?! then gave a one word answer to his statement and put my headphones back in & went back to playing my game). He called me an asshole and went to sit somewhere else. Oh well, I did feel like being an asshole at that moment.

As the hours of waiting were going by I was getting increasingly nervous as I had to stop by a job-site (my 2nd job) to pick up some keys for work on Tuesday then I had to be at my real job by 2pm. I finally got out of the DMV by 1:30.. Zoomed over to the job-site and got the keys and made it to work by 1:59pm... One minute to spare.

What was really frustrating was all I needed to do was show them that I got insurance so they could give me my new registration card and tag (sticker) for my license plate. I only talked to the dmv employee for 2 minutes but it took me 3 hours to get to her.

I hate the DMV! They used to be open 6 days a week.. Now only 4 due to budget cuts and its always jam packed full of people. Even people with appointments have to wait forever..

That really stinks Nebulous! That's a very long time to wait for something that takes 2 minutes. When I go to DMV, I get there right before they open the doors. I have never had to wait more than 30 minutes. At least everything worked out for you in the long run.

Aww, can't you do these things online?

Some things.. In this case I needed to provide physical evidence of my insurance and I needed them to print me a registration card and give me a tag for my license plate THAT DAY because my car was illegal (had an expired registration tag on the license plate), could not wait for stuff to come in the mail.

Anyway its all fixed now, just cost me 3 miserable hours of my life.

Yeah because tetris makes standing in line out in 100+ degree weather super fun.

I have tetris on my phone already.. Did not make my DMV visit any better.

I feel your pain, Nebulous. I just spent two hours for nothing in there, and now I'm going to have to take time off work to go back again. It's a horrible place to waste your life. I feel sorry for the people working there, though.

Ive had that happen too. Wait for 2 or 3 hours just for them to tell me that I am missing this or I forgot that and I need to come back when I have it.

I hate the DMV myself. They're mean, nasty, inconsiderate, and rude. When I went to get my permit, they were so rude and nasty to me. They treated me like a dog. Not going to go into the whole story, but they could care less I was there and didn't give crap about me getting my permit. Received my permit, but I wasn't smiling in my picture thanks to the DMV workers. Going to take my Driver's test in Drivers Ed, that way I don't have to take it with a state trooper if I pass with the Driver's Ed instructor. Still have to go to the DMV though, but at least I don't have to take the test with them.

I asked to get out of work early today so I could go to the DMV. I get off at 1pm (instead of 2:30pm) and I will go straight to the DMV. I bet I will be there until at least 3:30pm.

I actually went to the one 2 towns over. Ive heard that one is a lot quicker because its a smaller city. I was only in there for about 40 minutes total. Which is a lot better than 3 hours.

I'll be taking my driver's test with my driver's education instructor Thursday; hopefully I'll pass and all I will have to do when I turn 16 is go give them the certificate and get my license. I also have my boating certificate, need to add that to my license as well whenever I go down them to get my license next year.

Since i bought my car from an impound lot, it had no license plates. I had to go down and register the car, pay fees and get a Temporary Operating Permit which is a red sign you tape to your back window. It allows you 60 days to get pass a smog check (emissions test). Once you do that they will give you your license plate and tags.

Well I went down, got the permit, went straight to a smog shop, passed the test and came back to get my license plate and tags. I didn't need the 60 days, I only needed about 30 minutes. Lol. When I came back they gave me an Appointment ticket and my number was called 2 minutes later to go back and see the same lady again. They said since I already been there today, I dont have to wait the whole time again. This DMV is awesome. The one in my city would make you wait.

That's the same way with the one near me; the closest one is always a hellhole, but if I go over to the town over (sparsely populated), it is typically a quick in-and-out sort of deal.
