I had to read it twice because I didn't believe it:

From the horse's ....

*deadpans* Extraordinary times call for extraordinary actions.

In all seriousness, @DrLeftover: you know the state of Illinois and the "relationship" between Chicago and the rest of Illinois probably better than the rest of us, but why is there so much vitriol thrown at the Windy City?

Chicago is corrupt from the bottom of the Lake to the top of its skyscrapers.

Years ago there was a stink at the Chicago school district. It seems they were paying people teacher and admin salaries who had NEVER set foot in a Chicago school or provided any services for them. The same holds true for city jobs and the pensions thereof. Most of those getting them did earn them, but a lot of those getting the money never held a job with the city, and yet were taking a check.

Several mayors ran promising to clean it up. Oh well.

And now you have this one promising a grocery store when this is going on in those same neighborhoods:

Who're they going to get to go into one of these places and WORK?

Within the first day half of the products on the shelves will be carried out the front door without payment.

Meanwhile, the employees are going to be ducking bullets and the manager will be held up on their way home.

I get the corruption part, Doc; it just seems like the vitriol and almost-near if not outright hatred, "I want the city to die a horrible death!" attitude toward the city has gone straight past 11 the past few years. I mean, Detroit doesn't get a tenth of the hate Chicago does and if there was ever a poster city for municipal malfeasance the Motor City makes the Windy City look have a paragon of honor and virtue.

Detroit is at least acting like they want to clean the place up.
That is very true; as many times as I've been to Detroit over the years (usually to watch the IndyCars' at Belle Isle and last year in downtown Detroit) and they are legit turning things around there.

Does that include the Daleys, both Richard J. and Richard "let's go carve up Meigs Field for shits & giggles" M.?

And even Jane "beat the machine, dame" Byrne, who then lost to the poster child for the "new" Democrats, Harold Washington, who "the OLD machine" tried to beat, but couldn't.

Byrne seemed like a deer in the headlights; Washington was just straight-up nutso. (Come to think of it, Washington's CoS was just as nutty as his boss).
