The Guardian: Illinois man kills six-year-old Muslim boy and stabs mother in hate crime

A 71-year-old man in Plainfield, Illinois, has been charged with murder and a hate crime after stabbing a child and his mother because they were Muslims in an attack that killed a six-year-old boy and left the adult seriously wounded.

In a statement posted to the Will county sheriff’s office social media page, law enforcement responded to an emergency call made by a 32-year-old woman who alleged her landlord had attacked her with a knife. The Will county sheriff’s office said: “Detectives were able to determine that both victims in this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis.”

On the scene, officers found the 71-year-old suspect sitting upright on the ground near the home’s driveway and inside found two stabbing victims, a 32-year-old woman and 6-year-old boy who each suffered over a dozen stab wounds to their chest, torso and arms.

The suspect was identified as 71-year-old Joseph M Czuba and police said he was the property’s landlord.

“Joseph Czuba did not make any statements to detectives regarding his involvement in this heinous attack. Despite the suspect not providing a statement to detectives, personnel were able to gather enough information through interviews and evidence to formally charge Joseph Czuba with numerous criminal offenses,” said the Will county sheriff office in a statement. Czuba was charged with murder, two counts of hate crimes and other offenses. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, and the woman is hospitalized in serious condition, but expected to survive.

CAIR International, the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the US, said in a statement on social media: “We are shocked and disturbed to learn that a landlord in Chicago expressing anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian views broke into a Muslim family’s apartment and attacked them with a knife, injuring the mother and killing her 6-year-old son, Wadea Al-Fayoume.”

Actually in the U.S. like many countries waist a lot of money pretending the guilty are innocent. Scroll through the internet and you'll find a lot of videos of Mass shooters which show beyond a shadow of a doubt who the shooter was. I'd love to see a prosecutor walk into a courtroom and show just the video and rest their case. It would be upto the defense to prove it's not him. Of course the defense has full disclosure of rest of the evidence to prove it wasn't him. I'm thinking these would be short trials because there isn't a hope in hell the defense couldn't prove it isn't him in the video.

Yea I am aware of such ofc as it happens nearly weekly and that's just the reported cases. First time hearing about racism in this context though, it's usually just towards black ppl AFAIK and even by police officers mostly. Unbelievable but believable.

The ere should ony be murder charges with the sentence being dependent on why the person did it did. It completely baffles me why these cops commit their crimes. Considering these are fully trained adults how can so many of them forget cameras in the cruisers and their wearing bodycams.

I live in a city of 250,000 in Canada and when someone more often than they face charge and most of the time the charges include Breach of Conditions or breach of probation. Same criminals everytime

Fear? Not saying it’s right as I condemn racism of any kind but fear of black ppl is widespread, and the line of defences within the law where “reasonable force” is applicable is blurred

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm white in Canada and I'd hate to be black in the US. There is no doubt profiling causes a lot of problems.

Agreed, and these human racial biases seem to be unfortunately entering into medical devices and AI tech, and it’s appalling.
