Do you leave a forum when you have a disagreement with someone? Do you create a goodbye thread to announce that you are angry and not coming back?

Normally these goodbye threads end up creating problems. The person says they are leaving because of some petty disagreement then the rest of the members come and call them a drama queen or immature or childish or whatever. Usually they end up being locked or deleted on most forums. What is the point of making the infamous goodbye thread ? What does the person think they are going to accomplish by creating one of these? If they were really going to leave, they should just logout and not come back.

I would never do this and I find the people that do are attention seekers or just plain drama queens/kings. They say goodbye but then you'll see them checking their thread to see what kind of response they are getting from other members. Most that do this, from my experience, come back.

If I were to get to the point of leaving a forum, I would just leave and never log back in.

Our forum has a thread for that purpose.. a Coming and Going thread! It gets really dramatic, but it's nice to know when people are leaving or will be gone for a little while.

I have left forums before, but only once because of a disagreement. Most of the time I just get bored...

I've never made a goodbye thread though. If I leave, I just leave.

I never leave forums totally...I just kinda fade out like I do here and come back once in a while.

Tbh I thought this was going to be your goodbye thread...

I have left numerous times due to disagreements with those on a forum, mostly because of the fact that I normally have a beef with a higher up member within the forum as I tend to frolic within the smaller forums however, I never truly make a goodbye thread and or anything like that, I just leave.

If someone says it because they are upset with a member or situation on the forum, they should leave and cool down for a few days before returning. A leaving thread is not required in this situation..

However, if someone has been a long time, loyal, valuable contributor on the forum and no longer have the time for the community, then a leaving thread may be acceptable. This member should still be allowed to visit the forum and make posts.

I agree. If a forum has been up for five years, for example, and a member has been on that forum since day one, and one day he decides, or it's something that's beyond his control, that he can no longer contribute to the community, I would allow a thread to be created. If there was any bashing of any kind, such as see you in 2 weeks! I would step in and say something like, hey, this person has been a member of this forum since the day it began. Since he has actively contributed to this forum since such and such year, he is allowed to create a thread, and he will always be welcomed back and will be allowed to resume posting once again.

I admit, I have been really bad at this before myself, and it always seems to happen when I'm at the height of a rage against a staff member for some stupid thing or other that could very easily be taken up on IM or even PM, but I'm trying to change that, though. Now days, if I get pissed at a staff member for something or other, I try to just hit the exit button and not let my temper fly out.

If I'm leaving on holiday or something, I'll post it if there's an area for it. If I'm just quitting the place, I don't bother. If I hate the place or something, I'm not going to add +1 post count to them by saying I'm leaving.

No to your first question and no to your second question. I just up and out. Move along ... no sweat, no big deal.

I agree and disagree.

If you leave because of some petty argument, you don't need to make a thread. Although if you leave because of personal issues or just the general desicion to, i don't see the 'attention whore' in people if they make a goodbye thread. Maybe they just want to exchange some goodbyes and have people know they are going to be gone, instead of just disappearing.

I have only been forced to leave a few forums because they were just a horrible situation for everyone. I make a goodbye thread so people know i won't be coming back and know not to contact me or anything on that site. I feel like it's saying you don't care if you just leave without saying so.

I've never left a forum pretty much due to this being the only forum I really am on. I dislike forums a little but this is nice.
