I thought based on what's going on with me as I type this I could start a thread.
I just went out and had a great time with a close friend. We didn't get to dinner, but had a great night. Anyways, I'm in a Pizza place in Clayton grabbing something for the drive home and there's a guy here. He is clearly drunk and/or high and was just staring for AGES.
Now he's randomly started mouthing off at me (I'm burying myself on my phone to ignore it.)
What's more though is that he was standing on the side of the road when I parked and it seems as though he's followed me in...He hasn't even like...ordered.
So yeah...If I get stabbed walking in the next block to my car, bye guys.

He's really being very abusive. :/

If I could legally obtain a gun, so could he.
So yeah no, guns would have more likely made this into a murder rather than a spot of unpleasantness.

As for calling the Police - Geesh, that's 'starting something' 101.
The best thing you can do is do something to get your mind off the person, who is very clearly drug affected (we have something of a methamphetamine epidemic here - imagine adding guns to that mix) and wait for them to get bored and/or move on. Which is what wound up happening.

They're seeking a trigger, to start a fight.

Absolutely.
Trust me, this guy would not have the money nor connections to illegally obtain one.
I knew he wasn't armed, and that he couldn't simply take someone else's gun out for a stroll. (Again, Sandy Hook.)

Even to illegally obtain a gun, the cost is well above the scope of most people's capabilities here.

Come on I can't believe I am hearing this from people. People looking to start a violent act do not care if you are avoiding eye contact or pretending they are not seen. You give such actions a more hostile return. You gotta stand up to people like this even if you end up getting your own ass kicked.

I agree. I work in retail, and semi-often have to deal with drunken morons and/or drugged up retards. Occasionally they think they can try to intimidate you. Of course, I can't legally put them through the plate glass window of the store, nor can I pound their skulls into the linoleum. What I can do, is call their bluff. Generally they become far more docile when they realise that actually, they're picking a fight with the wrong person.

I think those situations are uncomfortable alright, but such is the world when deals with drunks and drug addicts, you need to measure up the risk when escalating something.

All I can say is if this scenario happened to me, I would have called the police and waited for them to show up. Even if I ignored him, there is nothing to say that he still wouldn't have followed me to my car.
