Is social media good or bad for society?

With popular sites like facebook and twitter, do you think that social media is good or bad for society, or a mix of both? Is social media making us more or less connected and involved with people? An argument can definitely be made for both, so what's your take on the social media life we live in?

It is tool.



As with any tool. It can be abused.

It's just a convenience building on pre-existing ideas. As with fora, chats or email, it makes it easier to communicate with people through text and images over arbitrary distances.

Reaching out to people is made easier and that can be used for misused. Stalking is easier, but so is finding old friends.

Both, it can be great, but it also give a place for all the nut cases in the world to have a voice.

I think social media combined with the ability to access it from portable devices has proved to be rather terrible as people now just walk around like their head is in a cloud because they are so focused on their portable device to pay attention to the world around them.



If anything I would think it should be called anti social media as it hardly promotes the act of being social.

One day at home I notices all the kids were on their devices even though we were all in the same room, so I longed onto face book and opened a chat to say hello to them.... they all laughed and got the message
