[font=lucida sans unicode', 'lucida grande', sans-serif]A homeless man roams the back alleys.
Aimlessly walks the valley ââ¬â
The bitter, valley of death.
The winter cold under his breath,
In the chill of the night.
In the still of the night.
Two men pass by, drunk and crazed.
After a hard day, needed to vent their rage,
Throwing things at the vagrant sleeping on a makeshift cot.
In a fit of hatred, beat him to death and they sprint off.
Left him for dead, blood running his cheek.
The man remained,
Unnamed.
Not a single witness,
Not a soul saw the beating of the vagrant.
Justice must be turning in sickness,
Not a day of jail for the unknown assailant.
A lack of attention and priority,
Victim of the sadistic.
Another statistic,
Hatred killed another minority.
Another death?
Is society deaf?
Is society deaf?
They canââ¬â¢t hear the cries of today foreboding the troubles of tomorrow?
Is society deaf?
They canââ¬â¢t hear the smallest voices shouting atop the tallest mountains?
Now, let me take you to this street.
Dilapidated houses and the people are poorer,
Now let me take you to the crack house on the corner.
In the dark,
Where a man stands cutting cocaine,
Heard the sirens outside and he knew the cops came.
He isnââ¬â¢t ready to die today.
Jumps out the window, heading towards the highway,
Sirens thundering and a night sky dazzled with lights,
Radios calling dispatches, ââ¬Åapprehend on sight,ââ¬Â
Two cops fire seven rounds. Suspect drops to the ground. No heart rate.
Another met a hard fate..
[font=lucida sans unicode', 'lucida grande', sans-serif]Poverty and turmoil, an endless cycle.
Too many lives lost to police order rifles.
Society is deaf,
The people are blinded by anger.
The adults ignore it,
The kids will never get an answer.
Is society deaf?
They canââ¬â¢t hear the cries of today foreboding the troubles of tomorrow?
Is society deaf?
They canââ¬â¢t hear the smallest voices shouting atop the tallest mountains?
Everyday is a new break of the pattern of silence.
The silence of the city night, reverberated with the sirens,
The streets will never cease its crying.
Police brutality met with violence.
Hatred incubated in the hearts of juveniles.
Raised in a world of mistrust and denial.
Accept whatââ¬â¢s given, reach for what is seen,
Remorse for past failures, what could have beenââ¬Â¦
Dog-eat-dog, do what you can to survive,
Itââ¬â¢s what Iââ¬â¢ve come to realize.
Innocence taken from the eyes ââ¬â
The burning eyes of kidsââ¬Â¦
The biggest tragedy amidst us since.
The future destroyed before it became reality,
Victims of our own mentality,
Anything can be done with action, not wait.
Who will escape the cruel twist of fate?
Society is not deaf. Deaf cannot hear.
Society hears but does not wake.
