Tennessee lesbian couple faked hate crime and destroyed own home with arson for insurance claim, jury rules

A lesbian couple faked a hate crime that left their home a pile of charred rubble at their Venore, Tenn., property in 2010, local reports said.

An insurance company caught on to the ruse months after the blaze and accused Carol Ann and Laura Stutte of perpetuating a hoax and blaming the fire on their neighbor, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

A federal jury ruled in favor of the insurance company’s belief that the couple spray-painted an anti-gay slur on their own garage to spin the fire as a hate crime based on their sexual orientation.

The homeowners intended to bank on an insurance claim of more than $276,000, American National and Casulty Company alleged in court documents obtained by the News Sentinel.

“We know who wrote those threats,” Stutte told the Metro Pulse. “Anyone who could go so far as to paint those hateful letters and burn someone else’s house down, they are really disturbed.”

Was she looking in the mirror when she said that? Got caught and now the insurance company doesn't have to pay, so they didn't get their money, or the satisfaction of pinning their fraud on the neighbor and they don't even have a house now. Justice is sweet.

Okay, now what is going to happen to these lovely lying "disturbed" ladies? When are they going to be charged with a hate crime against their neighbor whom they attempted to frame for the crime? When are the additional charges of arson, insurance fraud, obstruction and filing a false police report going to be filed? Soon I hope!

To the first part: they're royally screwed in regards to home insurance; next time they apply for any homeowners' insurance, the insurance company's liable to do a long check on them and deny their application on fraud grounds....

To the second part: FWIW, I hope they do get hit w/arson, fraud and false reporting charges; as for the hate crime....IIR, Tennessee doesn't have a hate crimes' law per se', so the Feds' would have to do that...I'm not holding out hope there. :fright:
