I was discussing recent and current events with some, shall we say, ... some younger people who are less well informed than they ought to be... the other day, and one of them didn't understand or appreciate exactly what is meant by the term 'aircraft carrier'.

Yes, they knew it was big, and could hold a lot of airplanes, but they had no idea just how big one is.

I showed them.

The below photo is the (now retired) US Carrier John F Kennedy docked at Malta.

"Yeah, that's a big boat."

Beautiful picture, Doc. That is one massive size boat but to accommodate the aircraft it needs to be. Thank you for posting the pic!

I've always loved aircraft carriers, beautiful.

Look forward to see the Queen Elizabeth when it's finally finished.

Well, you should watch the auction sites.

Every so often, you might just have a chance to buy one.

This is from 2010
the British Navy has put the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible up for sale on an eBay-like website. The proud 690-foot warship sailed Her Majesty's seas from 1980 to 2005, and took part in the Falklands, Balkans and Iraq campaigns. The ship underwent a major refit in 2004 but was decommissioned in 2005

In fact... pick one and make an offer:

(to make it easier, the Stennis and the Kennedy are the two largest. Of the other two 'big ones' the de Gaulle, the largest warship in Western Europe, is in front of the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean)
