@Temerit: Your thoughts?

I still think the two sentences are absurd and I don't give a shit if he cooperated with people after he got caught.

Punishments for white collar crime are largely a joke in this country. I'm glad the mastermind got 30 years.

Maybe the white collar crooks just say they don't want to talk about it.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (CBS Cleveland/AP) — An Ohio man who says he once lost his job and introduced President Barack Obama at a rally on Friday had been accused of stealing trade secrets by a former boss. Court records show that Daniel Potkanowicz and a business partner in the Youngstown area were ordered to pay $500,000 to Clearview Window & Door after a judge ruled in 2009 that they had violated trade secrets.

The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown reports that the two partners have not paid back the money.

Potkanowicz told the newspaper that he didn’t want to talk about his past.

“That’s part of my life I really don’t want to go into,” Potkanowicz told The Vindicator. “I’m not really talking about that.”

How about this one?

Sex-crime victim could be jailed for tweeting her attackers' names

A Kentucky girl who was sexually assaulted now faces jail time for talking about it publicly.

Savannah Dietrich, 17, could be locked up on contempt-of-court charges for tweeting the names of her attackers after they allegedly got a sweetheart plea bargain, according to a published report.

Dietrich, who was molested while passed out at a party by the sick creeps, told the Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper that she was outraged because the boys were given a deal that she thinks is “very, very light.”

Typical tabloid journalism.

However, I like the overarching thought originally introduced in this thread. The justice system is far from perfect. The example (of the homeless, black man) is great because it really illustrates the two great fascinations which tie into the disparity: race and wealth. Take for example the harsh impositions on drug crimes and the backlash this has had on, particularly, the low-income Black and Hispanic communities. Part of it has to do with the under-representation in all aspects of the justice system - especially in criminal courts. Personally I'd like to see more people becoming 'pro se' advocates.
