Nirvana and Kiss will be among the next group of artists to be honoured by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens will also will be inducted on April 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Kiss finally made the cut after being being nominated on a number of previous occasions.

Peter Criss, Kiss' original drummer and vocalist, said the band changed rock forever by raising the bar for live performances.

"We were four guys from New York City who brought Barnum & Bailey into rock and roll," he said.

"We wanted the makeup and the costumes and the bombs.

"Our idea was to give people a hell of a lot more for their money. We changed music by insisting you can't go up there and just sing anymore. That's going to stand forever."

Artists are eligible for the honour 25 years after their first release and Nirvana will enter the Hall of Fame on the 25th anniversary of their debut Bleach.

"For once ... I'm speechless. From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to ... the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, now the frontman for Foo Fighters, said in a statement.

The induction will also come 20 years after frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide at the age of 27.

Are any of you Kiss or Nirvana fans?

If you were to go to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame....

You can't smoke, you can't drink. No weapons are allowed. There are numerous recycling containers throughout the museum. And the Cafe only has 'light meals'.

There is just something basically wrong with that.

Both awesome bands that helped shape the music of their time and deserve it imo.
