(The Guardian) Court allows Biden administration to again pause oil and gas leases on federal land
A Louisiana judge has allowed the Biden administration to reinstate a pause on new oil and gas leases on federal land, in a win for the White House’s climate policy, Reuters reports.

The order by a judge in the fifth circuit court of appeals overturns a previous lower court ruling that blocked the pause, which Joe Biden announced in the opening days of his administration. Earlier this year, the interior department began selling new onshore oil and natural gas drilling leases while the case made its way through court.

And up the chain of courts we go so we can use our own energy
Maybe the process is the punishment here; make it so expensive to exercise the leases that you just give up.

Well since my wife’s job deals with government housing through a private company I’m very familiar with it and the paperwork involved. I get the brunt of the complaining.
Then you should've caught the "process is the punishment" bit...

It ain’t punishment, it’s just how governments are.
Depends on how you define punishment. Here, the punishment is "yeah, you got the leases, but we'll make it prohibitively expensive for you to work with them".
