A man was sent a $1,200 (£804) bill by his landlord to clean up the blood of his roommate, who was shot by police.
Tony ‘Terrell’ Robinson Jr, 19, was shot while unarmed by a police officer in Wisconsin last month while reportedly suffering a psychotic episode as a result of taking hallucinogenic drugs and behaving aggressively. The death was compared by the city’s chief of police to the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson.
Robinson’s surviving roommate and best friend, Anthony Limon, had been handed a notice by his landlord telling him to leave the property within five days as well as a $1,192 bill for ‘bio-hazard cleanup’ – removing Robinson’s blood from the apartment.
The landlord, identified as Ray Peterson by ThinkProgress, claimed that he had a legal obligation to evict Robinson and bill him for the cleanup, saying ‘if we gave them special privileges, it could be a real discrimination problem’.
