Ever left the house unlocked and unattended while you weren't home?

I did today. I was sitting here and all of the sudden the neighbor girl walks up to me (in my living room) and asks if my daughter is here and can go play. I was like How did you get in here?!?!? She said Your back door was unlocked. That means the house was open all last night and all day today while I was at work for 9 hours. I suppose I am lucky that nobody robbed me. If she didn't come in here, I would have went to sleep with the back door unlocked all night and went to work again with it unlocked tomorrow morning.. I dont really make it a habit to check the backdoor as it usually stays locked all the time.

We often leave our house open, normally one of the doors are always open, guess we are lucky we live in a good neighborhood and town.

We have so many doors that we open and close it's a burden to run around checking them all the time. I have left doors unlocked before the entire day with no-one at home. Oh well.

People rob houses around here all the time.

I don't recall there being any robberies around my area. I guess it also helps living on a colder-sac. There's not a lot of traffic that we get so anything that does come down is usually spotted by one of the members on our street.

Thank you.

It's never safe to leave this place unattended, even if we aren't going to be outside for long the doors are always locked if someone isn't inside to keep watch.

All doors are locked when I'm not home including the side door to the garage.

I don't think I have. Though there aren't many robberies in my neighbourhood, it's always good to be on the safe side.

Never, I have so much music equipment here.

I actually have four dogs, 3 with me and one, Bertie, In Prison. Or the canine version of prison. He Is a home where no dog Is ever destroyed however vicious.

One afternoon we went out and I had left the companies takings In the house ready to bank In the morning.

We came home to find the front door swinging wide open and we looked at each other In horror especially thinking of the amount of money In the house but then we looked at each other and said 'No way... Not with Bertie running loose.

House and money were fine.

This thread reminds me of a true story. Where I used to live it was called black bear country. I lived there for over 5 years and never once saw a black bear. I opened the local newspaper one day and on the front cover was a picture of a black bear sitting in the middle of a kitchen with food strewn all about. He had opened the door and went in and helped himself to food not only in the fridge but all the cupboards as well

The poor homeowner came home and saw the door wide open and clicked off the picture. I would have been

so fast my head would have spun around.

You should never run from a bear. Grizzly Bears you just back away from slowly or play dead and they'll leave you alone. With Black Bears you will generally need to fight it off if it comes at you - playing dead is suicide.

I watched a documentary about bears the other day. They said you should try to cover your throat and other vital areas.. Then try punch the bear in the face aggressively until it gives up.

I thought you had to play dead and cober your neck so that they couldn't bite it.

Different responses apply to black bears, grizzly bears and polar bears. If a black bear actually attacks, the standard rule is to fight back aggressively as this will encourage the bear to give up and leave. It is deadly to do this with a grizzly; the best chance is to play dead.

I got my info from Discovery Channel's Surviving Disaster: Avalanche
