Have you had to deal with any legal trouble with your forum at all?

How did you overcome it?

If not you, have you heard of other forums facing legal issues? What were they?

Thankfully not, but I've heard of a few others that had sensitive content and got into legal hot water over it

Just little threats of getting sued and what not after banning problem members.

I usually just ignore them at that point.

Going over the speed limit and getting a mandatory court summons. I had to go see my lawyer to get out of it. The good news was that I got off scot free. Bad news was that it didn't come cheap.

One got DMCA'd, another go a cease and desist, both adhered to the letters and removed the content.

Very scary letters can get to people when they come from big companies, lol

They can seem scary but usually they have no actual legal mumbo jumbo to back them up. Its just an intimidation tactic.

True, it's hard to tell at times, though, some companies do have the muscle to back it up. They both felt enough pressure to cave

Yeah like if we got a threat like that here they could start going after my host if I don't respond. The host could shut us down but I all I have to do is restore the backups somewhere else and point the domain to the new servers.
