Just out of curiosity, I thought I would get some feedback on what people would think about a life help forum. It's basically a forum that is for people who are either having troubling times in their lives or are willing to help others that are going through hard times, or perhaps both at the same time. It would serve as a community for anyone, but it would especially focus on helping others and just being there for one another. Sort of a retreat to get away from the real world and get some advice or some help from an outside source.

I know sometimes it's not easy turning to friends and family about certain things because a lot of times they just wouldn't understand, or even take you seriously, so that's why I was wondering what others thought about a forum that would serve the purpose of allowing people to seek help .

IMO, this could be a very dangerous thing when you seek advice or help from people who are not qualified to give it. If people need advice from an outside source, they should seek professional help. I would never try to advise or help a person who I did not know. There are many factors involved in why a person is seeking advice or help. I'm not qualified to break down those factors and provide a solution. What if I told a person to do something and it made matters worse? Nope, bad idea and not for me!

Thanks for your input! However, you don't necessarily need to be qualified to give someone advice, because advice is nothing more than your opinion on a matter. For instance, in this thread I'm asking people what their thoughts are on the idea of a life help forum. I'm not seeking professional advice, I'm simply seeking other's input on the idea. And that would be the basis for such a forum. Not so much a place to serve as a stronghold for all your life problems, but a place where you can get advice on a particular situation that may be going on in your life.

I understand what you're saying MrJ but I stick to my original comment. Again, this is just my opinion and I can only speak for myself.

It could be beneficial, but you'd need to seriously keep an eye out for trolls, flamers and maybe identity theft.

I must admit I'm not even crazy about this idea myself. Not everyone is who they say they are on the Internet, and you could end up playing all sorts of wild guessing games just to find out if they're telling the truth or not. I just think with a forum like that, there's too much of a risk involved more than anything.

It would be cool if there was licensed specialists & doctors on the forum. Im sure there is something like that out there.

Yeah, but aren't those kinds of forums owned and operated by actual professionals, though? I mean, for an average forumer to try scouting around and finding professionals to hear people out on problems and try to help them and stuff, well, I wouldn't even consider running a forum like that. It'd be too much of a hassle and at the rate I'm going some days I'm lucky to even have time to post on forums at all some days, which is why I chose general discussion for my forum.

I'd like to point out to all of you that getting assistance from a professional doctor is not exactly, free. If your stressed out from an economical problem, then sure. Go ahead and spend MORE money you don't have to get your problems out. Or, as a second alternative, you could seek any kind of help you can get and just go to a place that is built for emotional and stressful support. That is the purpose in those. As for the comment above about not knowing if a kid is going to make a forum about it, you can clearly assume from one's grammar if he (or she) is capable of providing you with a lack of help. But it doesn't take a rich man to tell you how to make money. Just saying. There is too much assuming going on in this topic.
