I much prefer a likes system, it's seems a lot more friendly and is a system which people seem to use more often than the reputation systems.

We just traded in our rep's for likes and I have to say...

It's way easier, makes more sense and is more fun for the members.

Indeed. Having "reputation" on a forum when you think about it sounds kinda strange. Makes me think of a gangster being like "Yeah, I got rep in this hood"

Neither. They both smack of being there purely for people to see how internet 'famous' they are. And it's a system that can easily be abused by people who are friends, or in their own little group, so having a high rep or like count means absolutely nothing.

Yet to see this on the forums I run or visit, the post ratings mod for xenforo is a much bigger more sophisticated beast than the current likes used here and like @Shane says its more friendlier and simpler than rep.

...It's just another way for people to interact with each other, which is the whole point of forums.

I would laugh if someone actually felt superior for having a high amount of Likes.

Exactly this. I've seen it happen first hand. Like-minded individuals gang up and treat each other with positive reputation while at the same time use the negative reputation to punish the unlike-minded individuals and basically deter them from speaking their mind, which in the long run does nothing but hurts the forum activity since the oppressed members will pack up their e-bags and leave for greener pastures. I've seen it happen.

Btw; catch:

Don't let it get into your head now, okiday? ;)

I must say, I like both. Reputation in my eyes is given for a helpful response or thread. A 'Like' can just be as simple as "Cool, I like this thread..." it may not have helped you with anything but may have found it interesting.

I suppose it means something. Its nice to know whether or not people like or dislike your opinion. I think its a way of people expressing whether or not your post has any credibility.
