Lost Job over Facebook Post

I suppose it would depend on the content of the message. As distasteful as racist comments are, the right to speech is intended for purposes like this: where people should have the right to even offensive speech without fear of repercussions like this. I don't feel people should be fired for what they say on their own time as long as they are not in uniform (i.e. representing the company in any way). Referencing the President's assassination - as this woman did - is a different story entirely.

That said, the point of view of the organization needs to be taken into consideration. Having employees making controversial political statements and using racial slurs would make any organization uneasy.

IMO they made the right decision, because of the consequences it had for the company. If it was just something she said on her facebook page that only her friends could read and there was no bad publicity then she shouldn't have gotten fired, but that's not the case here.

People should know by now to set they're profile to private before ranting and raving about something like that.

Serves her right.
