Should the age at which people gain the right to vote be lowered to 16?

I sure as hell know that I at sixteen am far better informed than 85% of Americans out there. But then again, I'm the exception and if this happened it would be likely that 95% of kids would vote with their parents. Unless they just felt like pissing them off, and then there would be a few cases where the kids legitimately disagreed with their parents.

I say the more people voting the better. They could even focus on the elections more in high schools so teenagers can make a better informed decision. Probably better than Nebulous-blow-30-year-old voting for Obama just because he is black or for Hillary just because she is a woman.

they can drive the road and die so why should they be able to vote

anyone can drive on the road and die, so does that mean that nobody should be allowed to drive?

I think that we could lower the age, but it would only work if teens were more informed in high school about what's actually going on in politics. that would make it much easier to vote. there should be more attention paid to current events in schools. teens need to be taught more about politics in their area. I'm almost 19 and I still don't completely understand politics, because nobody explained to me what the real difference is between our parties. (I'm from Canada) ok, the NDP are socialist, which is basically marxist. the Conservatives are more harsh on kids that break the law. that's about the extent of my knowledge of Canadian politics. there are other parties, the Liberals and the Green Party, but I don't understand what their platform is because nobody explains it to teens. even the government disregards teens - few teens vote, so the government doesn't give them much. look at how much it costs to go to university. if more teens voted and complained about this, it's very likely that these fees would go down because more teens are showing an interest in politics, which means it's now worth that politician's time and energy to help those teens out. this is basically a case of not understanding what's going on. if some one (or some people) took the time to explain things to teens, we would have more voters than we have right now.

Lets see most vehicular fatalities are the younger people who drive in every country..... most .Senor citizens come in a 2nd or 3rd yeah it might not happen to you but it does happen a lot. And it proven they were doing something they shouldn't texting ,showing off...Ect. That just proves most teens are irresponsible and immature. Note not all of them are irresponsible and immature there are a few. So why would you let irresponsible and immature people vote at 16.

Im 18 at 16 i was irresponsible and immature but i have done a lot of crap and then some but that's changed. Have have a kid and i take came of him and love him so much. Things change your life and 18 things change a lot.

I don't really see the necessity of having 16 year olds being able to vote. I was 16 not so long ago and I didn't give a damn about politics, nor did any of the people I knew. Now I'm 19 years old and I'm still one of the only people interested in it at my age. The rest just votes for what their parents vote for or vote for the one that had the most publicity and don't even know what the party stands for.

Bottom line is, what's the point of more worthless votes? The world has enough idiots that can vote already...

Where I'm from quite a few of my friends and I all are actually quite interested in politics and know a great deal. At 17.

So wait a year and you can go voting. I'm talking about the majority of the teenagers, of course some are going to be interested, but not everyone reaches maturity on the same age.

I don't think the voting age should be lowered.

Most kids haven't a clue about politics and so shouldn't have the vote.

Hell, I know plenty of adults who don't know what the hell politics is all about.

I compleatly agree with this. I'm 17 and have no idea what is what in politics. Doesn't say that I'll know something this year when I turn 18, but I was even more clueless when I was 16.
