NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Town of North Greenbush Police Department announced that an arrest has been made in connection to a theft investigation. Andrei Stoian, of Queens, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

On June 13, police responded to the Home Depot on North Greenbush Road following a report that someone had stolen cash utilizing a “quick change” scam. Such scams involve paying for small-priced items with large bills in an attempt to confuse the cashier into giving more change than is owed.

Stoian allegedly stole $1,278 before fleeing the store after being confronted by staff.

I wouldn't be surprised when everything goes straight to debit or credit card. Cash will be a thing of the past.

I've seen that in my travels. Tap to pay machines everywhere. Iceland and Scandinavia seem to be heavily going in that direction. Even here in Canada, since tap to pay came in, the need for cash has shrunk to the point where I rarely carry any.

Of course, that leads one to wonder where panhandling and street musicians go. Payment apps on their phones? Except the former likely don't have smartphones.

I doubt we'll ever see a cashless society. There are still so many entities which require cash in some way, whether it be the before mentioned street performers, county fairs, tattoo artist (you'd be surprised how many are cash only).
