Horrified villagers fled in terror after six giant crocodiles escaped from a farm when property developers demolished the walls after a row with the owner.
Croc farm owner Fan Lin had refused to budge when developers said they wouldn't meet his price to move out to make way for their new office block in Shizhuang, Jiangsu province, east China.
So they sent in a wrecking crew who tore down the walls - allowing the 17ft man-eating reptiles to escape.
"These are Nile crocodiles, some of the largest in the world and very dangerous," said an angry Fan.
"The demolition men came in the middle of the night and there was nothing I could do to stop them.
"I managed to keep some of the crocodiles contained but six got free and they'll be getting very hungry. Anyone they find will be in great danger," he added.
Local villagers have evacuated their homes until the crocs are recovered or killed, say police.
"We have experts searching. If anyone is hurt or injured by these crocodiles then the demolition team will be held responsible," said a police spokesman.
