A New York man who suffered a serious eye injury as a child has got a tattoo - on his eyeball.

The extremely rare procedure, which is definitely not for the squeamish, was conducted when the patient was awake.

William Watson, 58, was hit by a ball when he was young, leaving his left iris looking permanently white and cloudy.

It drew unwanted stared from strangers so he decided to get the unusual tattoo to make his damaged eye look more normal.

The procedure was carried out by Dr Emil Chynn of Park Ave SafeSight and CJ Pento, a tattoo artist from the Red Legged Devils tattoo shop in Brooklyn, New York.

Speaking before the procedure, Mr Watson said: "It will be a big change. I wont have the scar tissue no more and I'll be able to look people in the eye without people saying too much about it."

Dr Chynn did the actual tattooing while Pento mixed the colours and assisted him in his work.

To make sure the hour-long procedure was accurately done, the two practiced pupil tattooing manoeuvres beforehand on a grape.

Mr Watson, who was given an anaesthetic, was injected with coloured ink before it was set into place with a swab on the pupil.

"It felt like someone was rubbing it - that's about it. It went smoothly, no nothing what so ever. It was nice," he said afterwards.

"I can't believe how much better I look on the outside and how much better I feel inside.

"Dr Chynn gave me a way to normality I didn't even know existed six months ago. I feel much more confidence in myself."

Thoughts?

Amazing procedure and happy that he now feels better about himself.

Ow, just ow! But yay for him!

How the f*ck did that even happen?!

I've heard of eyeball tattooing. It's quite a common trend now. Nice to see it used for a serious reason and not just a modification.

I've heard of people getting their eye balls tatted just for fun. Its pretty lame actually because it causes blindness.

I don't think its the smartest thing for some one to do that to their eyes. But oh well, what ever floats their boat.  O.o

Well they say everyone has to be unique somehow lol

Right?
Finally a sort of normal application.
