The newest live action movie from DC/Warner Brothers marks the return of Superman to the big screen. Only this time its something of a reboot. I got the chance to go watch it yesterday and despite a couple of issues I had with it, I really enjoyed it. And what he does to the big bad known as Zod had me going 'holy s**t!' somewhat loudly.

Anyone seen it yet?

Watched it with some friends last Friday.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to live in that city after that final fight...

I watched it a couple weeks ago with this girl, and it seemed clear that she enjoyed it more than me at times. I think that it may or may not be because I'm an asshole. I enjoyed it, mind you. I thought that a lot of stuff was well-done, but there were other moments, like with what happened with Clark's father, where I leaned over and mumbled, "Bullshit!" only to have myself slapped away while she on the verge of tears. All of my friends bashed the movie brutally before, telling me that it was worse than Iron Man 3, or that it was a "3/10," but I came out of the theaters thinking much more of it than that. I liked a lot of what they did with the character, like how when he came to Earth, his powers fucked him up royally, and I know that there is about a million plot-holes, but I didn't notice them at the time.

Yeah I really didn't care for what went down with Pa Kent during that scene. I did love this version of Lois however. She wasn't such a bitch to him like she tends to be portrayed as towards him.

I kept thinking it would've been way more awesome if it'd been set 4000 years ago after that line near the start of the movie:
"He'll be a freak, they'll kill him!"
"How? He'll be a god to them."
(Something like that anyway.)
I was envisioning him ruling as god emperor of Earth... but I suppose that wouldn't have been a very good Superman movie.

My wife and I saw this film the first week that it came out in theaters. We though that the movie was great. The only part that we didn't care for was how Mr. Kent met his end. It didn't feel right and we thought that it could have been done better. His character deserved better than that.

You mean the dad? Yeah I thought that was kind of lame too.

Yep, I mean the dad. Yes, it was kind of lame. That was the only weak part in the film. It made no sense at all. Johnathan Kent went to go rescue the dog during the tornado scene, got hurt, and then motioned for Clark not to rescue him before he died as a result of the tornado. It was totally meaningless.

Reminds me of that scene in Django when Christopher Waltz's character shot Leonardo DiCaprio's character and then just stood their waiting to get shot by one of the candyland goons. He could have got out of that situation alive easily.

I think he was trying to prove a point to Clark by not letting him go and rescue him. But yeah, that scene did suck.

I thought the movie was pretty good. It was so good that I wouldn't have minded seeing it in theatres a second time, but since I didn't get the chance to I'll just settle for a Blu-ray copy.
