HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Halfmoon man pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty on Friday. Derrick Sud-Nieves admitted to not providing proper care for 37 dogs that were seized by Saratoga County Sheriffs on May 9.

The dogs are now in the care of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Saratoga County Animal Shelter cares for 17 puppies because some dogs gave birth.

Sud-Nieves was ordered to one year of probation for animal ownership to prevent further breeding and animal sales. Mohawk Hudson Humane Society said all of the dogs received treatment for several illnesses, parasites, skin conditions, malnourishment, and overall poor conditions from their unsanitary living conditions.

I'm getting the idea from the article that he's an animal hoarder. It is very common in the US for people like this to take in animals that they can't take care of. He probably brought in a few dogs and they bred and it went beyond his control. But like all animal hoarders, these people just have an inability to let go. It's wrong, it's frustrating, these people have a real problem.

Agreed but why only one year of probation?
