BEIJING â A man shot dead three people at a courthouse in central China on Tuesday before killing himself, a state news agency said.
The shooting took place during a morning trial at the Lingling District Peopleâs Court in Yongzhou, a city in Hunan province, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
The manâs identity could not immediately be confirmed and no further details were available, Xinhua said.
Calls to the court rang unanswered. An official surnamed Zhou from the Yongzhou city public security bureau said police had received a report of a shooting and were investigating. Zhou said she had no further details.
Though private gun ownership is virtually banned in China, the country has seen a rise in violent crimes amid the free-market reforms of recent years and a loosening of social controls.
