A Utah man was shot and killed during an FBI raid early Wednesday morning, the FBI confirmed to ABC News. The raid was in connection with an investigation into alleged threats against President Joe Biden and others, according to two officials briefed on the case.

One of the officials told ABC News that the investigation began in April and the U.S. Secret Service was notified by the FBI in June. In addition to threatening posts, the official said, the man under investigation suggested online he was making plans to take physical action. The threats had been deemed "credible," the official said.

The FBI in Salt Lake City said the shooting occurred around 6:15 am. local time while special agents attempted to serve arrest and search warrants at a residence in Provo.

Guy posted on the truth social network he's shoot Biden. Questioned by police, he said it was all just a dream. He was shot dead.

Making death threats on the Internet in the US is tracked by our government. Not even VPNs will save you. People get this idea that VPN and Proxy IP's make them 100% invisible and safe, nope. It might save them some trouble from hackers, but it won't save them from the government. VPN companies have been known to turn over their data to the Feds when one of their customers is doing something illegal. TOR is also heavily monitored. To make it very clear, there is no such thing as "privacy" on the Internet. I know someone whose door got kicked in by the feds because they traced his internet activity through a proxy that he was using. He was hacking a bank system and transferring funds to some account he set up.

Agreed. I'm sure that VPN and proxy providers won't admit it, but they surely keep logs of IP addresses due to law enforcement requirements.
No matter what anyone promises, no such thing as anonymity online.

I think doing illegal shit online is against a VPN's Terms of Use. They don't want to go to prison for the person using it to look up illegal stuff. Even Proxy IP's are set up on servers and are traceable. But like you said, yes definitely don't abuse those things to do nasty things online.

What's it the Americans like to say? Fuck around and...

Do you think I do? 🤪

That said, Townhall's Kurt Schlichter had an interesting thought about this...

For the non-tweeters out there in OT land...
I cannot think of a good tactical reason for not waiting until this old man was outside doing errands and then swarming him.

No, you can’t make violent threats and not expect to be arrested. But that doesn’t mean you set up the most dangerous kind of arrest possible, one that almost invites exactly what happened.
I'd love for the FBI to explain why they couldn't've just waited until the man stepped outside to, as Schlichter puts it, do errands and stuff before nabbing him.

Instead, they go in (with no bodycam footage) and essentially execute him.

And given all the controversies the FBI have been through over the decades, we're supposed to believe their side of the story afterward?

I suppose because they felt they may not be able to stop him fast enough after he leaves? He doesn’t have a monitoring tag on him after all

*deadpans* Apparently you didn't catch what I said.

They knew where he lived; they could've (1) had local law enforcement pick him up on a traffic stop, (2) arrested him while he was outside away from his coterie of weapons, etc.,etc.

Instead, they went in guns a-blazin, no bodycam footage....only the words of the FBI to go by.
Yeah, right. And Lt. Byrd was standing his ground on Jan. 6th too, I suppose.

I don't know the specifics of this case, but it's a good thought in general.
Same situation when David Koresh wasn't apprehended on his runs and all the trouble that caused in Waco.
