Do you think that all young men and women should be required to serve 1 year in their countries national service / army / military?

i have mixed feelings about this since i have served voluntarily.....................id say yes and no for different reasons

No. Not all young men and women are physically and/or emotionally capable of serving.

People forced to serve will endanger those who actually want to be there due to being either emotionally and/or physically incapable. I think Vietnam showed just how terrible things could get on the battlefield when using soldiers forced to serve.

Excellent post Bluezone777 and I agree with you.

No, for the above reasons and my laziness

no, unless it is in times when the country is directly threatend I.E. WW2 when the germans invaded. Otherwise it would just lead to turncoats and/or routs in iraq for example.

As a wise man once said: Willing obedience always beats forced obedience

No. People should serve their country because they want to, not because they are forced. If someone is forced to be in the military, chances are they are less of an asset than someone who wants to be there.
