As of May 1 the marijuana industry will begin mandatory potency testing of edible products. The government’s primary concern is finding products with too much punch.

“We are going to be more concerned with test results that are higher than what the law allows,” said Koski.

But according to the labs, potency is just one issue with marijuana products.

“We’ve found e.Coli, we’ve found salmonella, we’ve found other gram negative bacteria, molds and mildews, pesticides,” said Genifer Murray.

Testing for other potential health hazards won’t become mandatory until later in the year. ...

Well dispensaries sell marijuana butter (I suppose you'd have to trust them on the butter, but you can make butter yourself too) just mix that in with some cake or brownie mix, maybe add an egg or two, plop it in the oven for 20/30 minutes and BOOM, a whole tray of perfectly safe and potent edibles. Idiot proof

A quartet of 13-year-old middle school students is facing criminal charges after Iowa cops broke up their plans to bake marijuana-laced cookies during a home economics class.

Administrators at Edward Stone Middle School in Burlington contacted police Tuesday after learning from other pupils that “marijuana was being distributed on the campus and was being utilized as a cooking ingredient in Home Economics classes,” according to cops.

Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force officers subsequently determined that “marijuana was being delivered between students on their bus ride to school in the morning, as well as between classes on school grounds.”

When school officials learned of the pot cookie plot, they “were proactive in locating cooking items that showed evidence of marijuana being present before they were passed on to students or staff,” investigators noted. The marijuana had been placed inside cookie dough that was set to be baked in class on Wednesday.
