Marijuana Legalization

Scout said:
I do not claim, whatsoever, to be telling doctors what they can and cannot do. I am simply stating my opinion, that marijuana does not aid in the treatment of an ill person.

As stated, marijuana weakens the immune system, therefore prescription of the drug is counterproductive. It is a known fact, every doctor I have spoken to about the subject has said the same thing.

This is why I would never advise anyone (doctor or not) to supply people with weed to help a person get over illness. There are far better alternatives.

And your opinion is based on doing a tiny bit of research. I think I'd trust a doctor who decides to prescribe marijuana and has spent several years in medical school and several years treating patients. Marijuana has several beneficial qualities in it as I posted here: http://offtopix.com/showthread.php?tid=442&pid=4485#pid4485 which actually help people with certain illness's.

Every medication out on the market has downsides and side effects, that doesn’t mean they also don’t help the patient as well.

Besides just about everything in the world is bad for you. We should make marijuana illegal because it has things that can harm us in it? Lol.

If I took three perfectly healthy people and subjected one to daily heavy marijuana use and subjected one to daily heavy alcohol consumption and subjected the other to daily heavy fast food consumption.. Who do you think would be the last one alive? The marijuana user. Strange that is the only one that is illegal.

Sorry but I'm having a hard time trying to understand your logic here. Are you saying that only organized crime and shady criminals sell marijuana? What about when you have a prescription for medical reasons? Are the doctors and pharmacists part of this organized crime too? Who's going to regulate it if marijuana were to become legal? What is the right dose? Oh, man, I need a break

I was speaking more along the lines of illegal drugs in general. Those who sell and use it for medical reasons are fine as it's the people who sell it for recreational use are the problem and making it legal means those who excessively profit off of the selling of illegal drugs will no longer profit from it and with that goes all the drug related crime since it would not be so expensive as it is today.

I thought it was all the PCP and stuff that's in street marijuana that causes all of the health problems that people are ranting about? and if pot was legalized, there wouldn't be PCP in it... and smoking pot gives you the munchies. doctors use it to help cure anorexics. if it was really all that bad, I don't think that doctors, who have studied and trained for years would be using it to help make people better...

and by the way, you can overdose on the stuff that is out on the shelves in any drugstore, and it can kill you, while I'm pretty sure that pot can't kill you. many of the suicides in the world are because kids take tons of tylenol and OD on it and then die.

Enough said.

If we're going to let people smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol, there's no reason we should have a ban on cannabis.

I've always said legalize it, regulate it, and tax the hell out of it. Just like booze and cigarettes.

And just like cigarettes and booze, if you are under 18 or 21 or whatever and get caught with it, you're busted.

And then all of the sudden, those that agree with what I said in the first sentence disagree with me.

Which I find odd.

How about wiping out the national debt in about 2 years here in the States when they start taxing it?

I was just recently approved for medical marijuana and I can grow 12 plants at a time and carry 2.5 ounces on me at any time. And it's perfectly legal. Waiting for my certificate to come in the mail so I can get started growing.[/quote]

dude sell that shit omg.......

idc what they do... ive smoked like 6-8 times already out of joints, bongs, pipes, etc and haven't been high yet.... i think? i mean my friends say ill know when i am but i haven't really like been able to tell clearly?

You're probably doing it wrong. I was high as balls my first time and I had to use a soda can.

definitely haven't and i have my friends who have smoked for years who are baffled. i get quite annoyed when they keep asking if im high because idk what to say since its been so many times now...

Could be what you're smoking, or if this is even possible, and I think it might be, you could be THC resistant. But I've only heard of being resistant to weed from a friend and further research proved no useful knowledge on the subject, so...

I disagree with the ban of Marijuana. In the United States, over a million people have tried and/or regularly use marijuana. There has been 0 official deaths credited with intoxication of the drug. In fact, the only incident i ever heard of that the police blamed on bud was a stoned man falling out of his window and crashing to his deaths. The legalization of Marijuana would make a happier place, help produce better songs, better music and up our economy in marijuana sales. WHATS THE PROBLEM US?

I got my facts from: http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/30

Becoming a medical marijuana patient in California is pretty easy. If you have like $70 and tell the doctor you have trouble sleeping, back pain, etc etc, they'll give you a free ticket to legally use and obtain marijuana for a year. I dont think you have to see the doctor to renew after the year is up either, you just have to pay a renewal fee.

Marijuana is mostly illegal, but legal in Colorado and Washington. In 14 states and Detroit, MI, cannabis use has been decriminalized.

Of course. I agree.

And when I say that, many Off Topixites dance in joy.

But then I say:

"Legalize it, regulate it, and tax it just like alcohol. And, just like alcohol, if you are under 21 and caught with it, you're busted."

Then many of those same Off Topixites call me names.

Fascinating. No?

Medically, they shouldn't, if they have symptoms that respond to THC, take your script in and get it filled.

However, just like with booze, while there may be benefits to those under age, their are also risks, and what is sauce for one is gravy for the other.

(all puns available at no extra charge)

Sure there are risks; risks to people of any age, and with any medication, not just pot.
You can't just get most medicines either (at any age) can you?
