Marijuana Legalization

I suppose not. I thought there might be some hope because they like making money.

I must assume that the 'they' in your statement refers to somebody besides politicians.

Yes, 'they' do.

But then the other 'they' comes into play.

But don't worry, that 'they' will do much better managing your health care.

I should think politicians like to earn money and if they gather enough taxes, they'll be able to afford their next pay raise. Though I'm sure they'll get it regardless of actual funds.

As for my healthcare, I'm not too worried. It's less than a tenth of the minimum monthly wage.

I'm not going to read the 7 pages....but I'm just going to skip back to the original topic of legalization.

I think the substance should indeed be legalized. It's been proven to be healthier than legal substances like alcohol and tobacco, it's proven to be safer as well. It would create jobs, an entirely new market in out downed economy, and the taxation alone might just put the nation back up on it's feet. I don't think I've ever heard anyone ever put forth a good reason to keep it illegal (although many have tried).

Well, there is this:

A Door County jury found a Sturgeon Bay man guilty Wednesday of driving with a detectable amount of a restricted controlled substance in his blood and possessing drug paraphernalia.

It was the third conviction for operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance in his bloodstream

Not if the UN has anything to say about it.

The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) says it is concerned by the approval by Uruguayan MPs of a bill which would legalise marijuana.

The INCB says the law would "be in complete contravention to the provisions of the international drug treaties to which Uruguay is party".

Under the new law, the state would assume control of growing and selling cannabis to registered users.

SEATTLE — At the marijuana festival called Hempfest that has been held here annually for more than two decades, enforcing pot smoking laws was traditionally a low priority. Police say they wanted to keep people safe and ensure that property wasn't damaged or stolen.

But this weekend, at the first gathering since Washington state voters approved decriminalizing marijuana use, police will take a different approach to protecting and serving: Instead of having handcuffs and citations at the ready, a group of officers will be passing out tortilla chips.

The hope is that munchies-stricken revelers will read the stickers on the bags that explain what has and hasn't changed under the new law.

Of course 'the cops' won't be videotaping everybody that picks up a bag of chips and running the images through facial recognition software and cross referencing that with the driver's license database. Right?
