The hospice care center where I live is holding the annual Memorial Butterfly Release tomorrow. The butterflies are released honoring the memory of all the people and families that have been cared for at the hospice care center. This event is also an opportunity for people and families to honor the memory of loved ones who lost their battle with cancer.
People and families purchase a live Monarch Butterfly for a donation in honor of or in memory of someone special. Then tomorrow we are each given a butterfly. After a short ceremony, we walk into a huge field and release the butterflies. It's an awesome sight and a wonderful way to honor your someone special. My dad is my someone special. He put up a good fight but in the end, the cancer stole him from me.
The butterfly event is something I go to every year. When I watch the butterflies floating and flying about, it gives me an inner peace. It makes me somehow feel closer to my dad. Last year a butterfly landed on my arm. It just stayed there for a very long time. I looked at it and smiled thinking how much that butterfly meant to me. They are beautiful and so was my dad.
Question: Have you ever heard of such an event? Or perhaps, is there such an event held where you live?
