These people were actually looking for a place to drill for oil under the ocean near Greenland. Due to how powerful their sonars were they were unable to use the sonars if any animals were near by, so that they wouldn't harm them. They heard noises that they believed to be whales. However they could not confirm that there were whales so they recorded a tape of what they were hearing and then played it back while they were down there for the next few months to see if it would attract anything. This is what they caught on camera. Get your facts straight before calling it a hoax.

I personally don't think they are real. Find it funny that they are portrayed as cute and friendly nowadays though - they always used to be evil.
