The stepfather of Michael Brown has apologized for angry comments he made after the grand jury decided not to indict the police officer who killed his stepson, but said his remarks had nothing to do with the arson and looting that ravaged Ferguson and the surrounding area.

Louis Head said Wednesday in a statement to CBS News that he was full of emotion on the night of Nov. 24, when he yelled "Burn this bitch down!" in a crowd of protesters.

"Something came over me as I watched and listened to my wife, the mother of Michael Brown, Jr., react to the gut-wrenching news that the cop who killed her son wouldn't be charged with a crime," Head said in his statement. "My emotions admittedly got the best of me. This is my family.

"I was so angry and full of raw emotions, as so many others were, and granted, I screamed out words that I shouldn't have screamed in the heat of the moment," he continued. "It was wrong and I humbly apologize to all of those who read my pain and anger as a true desire for what I want for our community. It wasn't."

St. Louis County police said Tuesday they are investigating Head's comments as part of a broader inquiry into the arson, vandalism and looting. Twelve commercial buildings were destroyed in the hours after the grand jury decision.

In your opinion: By saying what he did, is he responsible for inciting the arson, vandalism and looting? Why / Why not?

To some degree, he is responsible...but by that standard, he's but one of a long list of people responsible for the looting, rioting and other acts of violence in Ferguson following the Grand Jury's decision... :|

In my opinion he is responsible. He gave a 'command' and the thugs followed through.

I don't believe he is responsible considering he is only in control of himself. He never had the authority to give these people permission to riot in the first place, so although he said something that sparked a response, so did the authorities who prepared for an "inevitable" riot in the first place. Only the rioters who did the actual damage should get in any sort of trouble. Michael Brown's step dad was just an idiot.

I think the man is a complete and utter idiot. But We either have free speech or we don't. I do not care what this guy said or told people to do. People have free will to make there own decisions on how to act. So no I would not arrest him and no way in hell would I convict him if I was on a jury.

To be fair, even if he were arrested and charged, that wouldn't be a removal of his freedom of speech. He still has the freedom to speak, to yell, to incite rioting. He just has to suffer the consequences.

When it is government coming after you it most certainly is a removal of freedom of speech. Where it is not a removal of his freedom of speech is if his job fired him. But since government is the one that is supposed to protect those freedoms they would not be doing that if charges were filed.

Oh my God. The guy's step-son was murdered and the killer is a free man!
Give him a break.

As for the rioting, as wrong as it was, it never would have happen if justice has been done.

Except it was not murder it was self defense. 70 hours of testimony who witnessed it shows justice was done.

Liberty's right; that grand jury spent what, 3 months or so, looking at all the evidence in the Michael Brown case and they came to the right decision. Justice was indeed served, my friend. :|
