I've heard of a few forums who rotate moderators every year or so. It's just so there's a new fresh set of moderators and so like a clique or cult of personality doesn't form between the mod team and such.

I get why some forums would be ok with it, but I don't think I'd ever do it on my own forum. I do not feel forums always have enough activity to warrant a mod rotation system either, sadly.

Have you ever been a staff member of a forum that rotated mods out? How did it go? If you never have before, what do you think of this?

Never heard of this and wouldn’t do it. It’s hard to find good staff members, firing them for new people just because a certain amount of time has passed is ridiculous in my opinion.

Agreed; one of the keys to a successful forum, as long as I can remember, is having a consistent staff - consistent in members and consistent in how they enforce the rules.

Never rotating out, but I have been on a few forums that held mod votes to decide on the newest batches of moderators to be added when the numbers were low enough. I agree that consistency is the key, if it's a revolving door no one's job is safe and no one will feel motivated to do their best since they know their time is up eventually anyway.

This forum is super active and seemed some/many were willing to become moderators on this forum. It was the forum where I was a mod and got perma banned for an incident last year

What did you do?
so basically there was an anti forum made of this forum or some such. I don't know what it quite was, but there was also some drama that went on in a discord server. I went on there and spammed slurs and nsfw images. this anti forum was on proboards anyway, so lol.

soo come to find out the admin of that anti forum sent my IP, emails, etc to this forum..

and boom!

revealed!

I ended up getting perma banned from the forum and removed from mod all for something that did not even happen or occur on the site. I think that was justified and all still.

Yeah, we're not politicians. :p

I have been banned for deleting my account. It seems that some spiteful admins take it personally, then ban me *after* I have deleted as some kind of revenge.

But if the place is dead or the admin is a total control freak, then why would I want to stay?

Seems very weird. Moderation, for the most part, should be pretty simple and objective overall. As long as you didn't hire an asshole, it shouldn't come up that much at all.

I have been banned for deleting my account.
How does that work? If there is no account how can they ban you? DId you make another account there? Or did they just ban your IP and email address so you couldn't come back if you changed your mind.?

I delete my account, then after a week or so if I check in as a guest to read the posts I get: "You have been banned from this forum". That is all I can tell you. I imagine that the admin(s) in question became angry that I deleted, then went to my IP address and banned it.

IP bans are insanely ineffective, not sure why people even use them.

Some people are assigned a new IP address frequently/randomly by their ISP.

Sometimes you can just unplug your modem and then plug it back in (or if your power goes out), you'll have a new one.

If people are on a data plan with mobile devices (phone or tablet) then those IP's are constantly changing.

There is also things like proxies and VPN's people can use to get a new IP address (at least temporarily while the VPN is switched on).

^^^I would never bother with all of that. Why would anyone want to come back to a forum in which they have deleted their account? The banning is no doubt a small, petty way of getting revenge. In others words "We don't want you back"....whatever.:rocket:

Kind of reminds me of when a person quits their job and the boss replies with "You can't quit because you're fired!" :P

It seems like a bad idea as good staff should remain good staff. It is certainly never a bad idea to get fresh ideas and people involved with a forum, but this does not appear to be the way.

I am a bit happy some are against this. See, this is exactly how I felt. I didn't say much as I bit my tongue. I dislike the idea of switching out mods every 6 months or a year myself. You do not need that many mods on a forum anymore anyway.
